Frozen shoulder --- Adhesive capsulitis
What is a frozen shoulder?
The shoulder is a complex anatomic structure that allows movement in many planes. Most people don't think about the importance of shoulder joints until its function is compromised. It then becomes obvious how crucial the shoulder joint is for many essential activities. The misuse of your shoulder joint leads to more stiffness and pain, followed by more misuse, and so on. Eventually, you can hardly move your arm and the severe pain disturbs your sleep.
Statistics Summary
People who develop frozen shoulder are usually aged between 40-70 years. It is thought that 3% of people will develop the condition in their lifetime.
- It is more common in women (60%)
- It is 5x more common for diabetics
- It is more common in patients with Dupytren's contracture
- It may be genetic
- About 15% of people get it on both shoulders
Preventing Frozen Shoulder:
To prevent this condition, a common recommendation is to keep the shoulder joint fully moving. Often a shoulder will hurt when it begins to freeze. Because pain discourages movement, further development of adhesions that restrict movement will occur unless the joint continues to move in all directions (adduction, abduction, flexion, rotation, extension). Some other forms of treatment may help, such as acupuncture, exercise, yoga, and massages.
How the AP Massager can help:
Massaging is one of the best ways to increase blood flow to an injured area, which brings oxygen and nutrients. Massaging also helps reduce the amount of scar tissue that is associated with all muscle, tendon, and joint injuries.
Our AP Massager mimics the actions of a hand massage with its multiple raised nodes. It oscillates in a powerful orbiting 3D pattern, stimulating the human hand rubbing against your shoulder 400 to 700 times per minute (6-12 cycles per second) in multiple directions. You will observe that the oscillations are nearly one inch wide in amplitude. Within 2-5 minutes of massaging comes relaxation as well as reduced pain. Your shoulder should also be much warmer, indicating improved blood flow there. The AP Massager is the only product that is portable and rechargeable that can work deep into thick muscles.
AP Massager is completely portable, with built-in rechargeable batteries
